Vina Vietnamese Gourmet (Oakridge)
A couple of years ago, I had THE BEST banh mi at the Vina’s at the Metrotown food court. I thought it was odd because I never would have thought of Vina’s as a place to get a good banh mi. The bread was fresh and crusty, the chicken was hot and plentiful, and the pickled veggies had the perfect crunchiness.
I’ve been back to that Vina’s a number of times but the banh mi has never tasted the same as that first time. I figured that I might as well try the Vina’s at the Oakridge food court to see if it was any good.
Sad to say that this banh mi really wasn’t very good. Mainly because there wasn’t much there. Don’t get me wrong, the bread was nice and crusty but there was barely any filling in it. I swear that I took a few bites and didn’t even hit any chicken. If they had doubled or tripled the fillings, it would probably be as good as the first one I had at Vina’s.
The small wonton noodle soup was actually pretty good. Unlike the pathetic deep fried wontons at Kingsway Sushi these wontons actually had some meat in them. The large S3 (can’t remember the name) was good though. Nice and spicy and filled with cuts of meat and noodles.
Service-wise, the dude at the counter really seemed really apathetic about being there (not that I blame him).
