Columbus Restaurant – Everything But The Waitress

On an earlier post for Columbus Restaurant, we had tried their Chef’s Mistake pizza which was chock full of toppings.  This time around, we decided to go for broke and get their Everything But The Waitress pizza. Read the rest of this entry

Red Lion Bar & Grill

If you were to ask me to describe examples of English cuisine, I probably couldn’t name anything other than fish and chips and bangers and mash.  Fortunately, there’s a pub located in Dundarave that helps to dispel the common myth that British food is nothing to write home about.  Read the rest of this entry

Phnom Penh – Dinner Party

The other day, we and some friends decided to have a dinner party at Phnom Penh.  Did you know you can reserve large tables in advance?  It’s a good idea since it always seems busy at this little Chinatown holdout.  While we were dining, we noticed a table next to us that was obviously reserved.  Some Chinese family boldly walked in past the crowds of patiently waiting guests, sat down, and were quickly shoo’d away by the staff when they found out the table didn’t belong to them. Vina Vietnamese (Metrotown)

Vina Vietnamese is located in the Metrotown food court.  While the food isn’t necessarily the most authentic Vietnamese food, it is a nice option from the regular burgers and fried chicken you get at the mall. Read the rest of this entry

Whole Foods Market

If you’re ever around Cambie and 8th Avenue and finding yourself really hungry… you’re in luck!  Whole Foods has got a huge selection of prepared foods to fill the void in your tummy. Read the rest of this entry

Flamingo House Chinese Cuisine – Dim Sum

We recently had a great taro duck dinner at Flamingo House (See our post here) and wanted to go back and try their dim sum.  While we’re a fan of the old-style push carts that they use, the food at dim sum doesn’t meet the same standards as their dinner dishes. Read the rest of this entry

Vassilis Souvlaki Greek Taverna

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve worked in the South Burnaby area for about 6-7 years now but haven’t really gotten around to trying a lot of the restaurants in the neighbourhood.  When I read Eating in Vancouver’s post of Vassilis Souvlaki a few months ago, I knew right away which restaurant they were talking about as I’ve driven by it many times. Kiku Sushi

Kiku Sushi is located in a mini mall and directly across from a London Drugs.  There are a lot of good restaurants within walking distance, but if you’re running errands and looking for somewhere to pass the time while you’re waiting for your prescriptions, Kiku is an okay choice to pass the time. Pinkberry – Swirled Up Goodness

Usually, getting a “swirly” is not something that you hope for (unless you have a strange fetish for having your head dunked in a toilet while it’s being flushed).  Pinkberry’s got a new take on getting your swirl on and it’s tart, light, and fresh… froyo! Read the rest of this entry

PNE 2011 – Fair Food

We’ve been going to the Pacific National Exhibition every year since we were kids.  Some things have changed over the years (I still miss the BC Pavilion with the Challenger Relief Map) but one thing that hasn’t changed is that the PNE is a great place to go to get yummy fair food. JB Malaysian Cuisine

For some reason, there’s not many Malaysian restaurants in Burnaby… which is a shame because sometimes I get a craving for roti or spicy curry.  I’m not surprised that I haven’t seen JB Malaysian Cuisine on Kingsway before… I had the address and I still managed to drive by twice without seeing it nestled next to the HSBC. Flamingo House Chinese Cuisine – Taro Duck

It’s been a while since we’ve been to Flamingo House Chinese Cuisine on Cambie Street so we thought we’d bring our nephew along with us.  Flamingo is a very popular restaurant in Marpole… we showed up at 6pm on a Thursday night and there were at least 2 private parties going on.  After 30 minutes, the whole restaurant was practically full.
