Red Robin (Metrotown) – Oktoberfest Burger

I know it’s still September but Oktoberfest has officially started this year and what better way to celebrate than with an Oktoberfest Burger at Red Robin?

Many moons ago, when we were still in high school, Red Robin was the place to go.  The food was a step up from the regular McDonald’s and Burger King and the prices weren’t too bad.  Back then, we didn’t mind the loud crowds (heck, we were probably the ones who made the most noise back then).  Well, things have changed a bit for us now but, unfortunately, Red Robin hasn’t.

Red Robin is a very family friendly restaurant.  In fact, almost every other table had either a crying baby or a kid running around.  The parents seem to be oblivious to the fact that not everyone thinks that their child’s behaviour is cute.  One kid at the table next to us was tossing all of the sugar packets onto the floor and all that the parents did was to stuff the sugar packets back into the container (I feel sorry for whoever wanted to use the sugar at that table next).

Red’s has brought back their Clamdigger Chowder.  Not the best or the worst chowder I’ve had but I had trouble finding the small clam pieces in the soup.  The garlic cheese triangle was pretty good though.

I really wanted to try the Oktoberfest Burger – it sounded like a good idea… ham, onions, and mustard toppings served on a pretzel bun.  It was a pretty good idea but it would have been way better if they served it with sauerkraut and sausage instead of the onions and ham.  Also, the bun may have looked a bit like a pretzel roll but it didn’t taste like one.

The bottomless fries have improved – they used to be really soggy steak fries but the ones we got today were nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

The Chicken Fajitas is a fairly filling meal with plenty of grilled chicken and generous amounts of onions and peppers, although, it can be a bit messy to eat.

Red Robin is a great place to go if you don’t mind the loud noise and you’re looking for a real casual place to grab some okay grub… but don’t expect too much.
