Curry Express (Metrotown)
Curry Express is exactly what the name implies… you get quick curry items when you need it the most. The problem is that the food isn’t the most authentic that it can be. Still, when every other stall is serving burgers or sweet and sour pork, it’s a nice change having other ethnic choices at the mall.
A&W (Metrotown) – Fiesta Mama Burger
What’s your favourite A&W burger? The Teen Burger? The Papa Burger? Every now and again, they come out with a special burger like the Fiesta Mama Burger (which is similar to their Spicy Mama Burger). Read the rest of this entry
Arby’s (Metrotown) – Great Canadian Sandwich
Arby’s is a nice alternative when you’re looking for fast food but something other than regular burgers. I like how they have a lot of different sides… baked potato, mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, potato cakes, and shakes.
And who can resist thinly-sliced, oven-roasted beef?
Goldilocks – Filipino Bakery
Goldilocks is a Filipino bakery/cafe that serves both designer cakes (they have a large display of sample cakes – mainly kids themed) as well as Filipino entrees. We usually only come here for the pastries though.
Fratelli Bakery – Saint Honore Cake
We’ve been hearing a lot about the Saint Honore Cake at Fratelli Bakery on Commercial Drive lately so we decided to see what the fuss was all about. Read the rest of this entry
Lin Chinese Cuisine – Chinese-Canadian Food
Lin Chinese Cuisine has been on my list of places to go for a while (because I’ve heard some good things about their Xiao Long Bao) but we’ve just never found the time to stop by. We had some errands nearby (picking up our fixed umbrella at the nearby Umbrella Shop on W. Broadway) so we stopped by Lin’s first. Read the rest of this entry
Makoto Japanese Restaurant
Makoto is a nice little sushi shop in Burnaby that I haven’t been to for years. I forget why I stopped going here… maybe it’s because they only accept cash (or debit). Read the rest of this entry
Bronco Belle (Brentwood Mall)
Bronco Belle in Brentwood Mall serves up a lot of different grilled meats including beef, chicken, bison, wild boar, kangaroo, and camel… Really? Camel?? Read the rest of this entry
Salmon House on the Hill – West Coast Feast
What time is it? It’s time for a West Coast Feast at the Salmon House on the Hill. Until the end of the month, the Salmon House is offering up a 3-course dinner for $29.95 Read the rest of this entry
Georgio’s Cafe & Pizzeria – Filipino BBQ Skewers
There are just so many things that seem wrong with this hole-in-the-wall restaurant that I was almost hesitant to try the food. But, since I drive by this place 4 times a day, I figured it’s about time I tried it out. I used to think that Georgio’s was just another pizza joint catering to the nearby high school. And while they seem to do brisk lunch business with the teenagers looking for $3 poutine, I came for the Filipino style BBQ chicken and pork.
Fortune Restaurant – Dim Sum
Fortune Restaurant (not to be confused with Fortune House Seafood in Metrotown) is in a bit of an odd location at Oakridge Mall. While there is an outside entrance on Cambie Street, the easiest way to get into the restaurant is through the mall parking lot. Even if you’re in the mall, the best way to get to the restaurant is through an out-of-the-way door (next to the movie theatre) that leads to the parkade. Read the rest of this entry
Kura Japanese
I love the large wooden door at the entrance of Kura Japanese on Kingsway… it reminds me of the doors that you’d find at a Hobbit tavern in Middle Earth. Read the rest of this entry
