Makoto Japanese Restaurant
Makoto is a nice little sushi shop in Burnaby that I haven’t been to for years. I forget why I stopped going here… maybe it’s because they only accept cash (or debit).
We started with their signature Makoto Roll which comes with cucumber, crab meat, and unagi rolled up and topped with prawn and orange and green tobiko. Oddly enough, when I placed my order for this over the phone, the waitress wasn’t sure what I was talking about… you’d think she would know the roll that was named after their own restaurant. I actually liked this - I don’t think I’ve ever had this particular sushi roll combination before.
The salmon sashimi tasted fresh and went down slippery-smooth.
I’m not sure why, but there’s something about shredded pickled ginger that really brings out the flavours in Chicken Yakiudon. This was very well prepared and so yummy with plenty of chicken and veggies.
Oyako Don comes with chicken and egg (hence the name parent-and-child-donburi) and onions and is one of my favourite types of donburi. I mean, really, doesn’t egg on top of everything taste better?
Makoto’s located along Rumble Street across the way from Georgio’s Cafe & Pizzeria.
