Saint Germain Bakery (Oakridge) – Macaroons or Macarons?
Did you know that you can get French-style macarons at Saint Germain Bakery? Is it “macaron” or “macaroon”? I always think of a macaroon as those small little coconut cookies you get at Safeway.
While you can buy them individually, they also package them up in these neat little boxes.
In the box, you get pistachio, lemon, strawberry, hazelnut, coffee, and chocolate macarons.
Despite how good they look, these aren’t the best macarons I’ve had… the texture was just off. Apparently, you can also buy these at Save-On-Foods but I wouldn’t recommend buying them. Of the different flavours, I think I liked the strawberry and pistachio the most but the ones we’ve had at Thomas Haas were way better.
The Raisin Bread at Saint Germain is extremely soft and pulls apart nicely… I tend to only see this type of raisin bread at Chinese style bakeries.
I wish that they had a slightly bigger store – it gets very crowded with the small counter space that they have.
