Hart House

The Hart House Restaurant, located on a 13 acre estate in the centre of Burnaby, has had a storied past from the day the estate was purchased by Frederick Hart in 1906, renowned for majestic iris gardens in the early 1900′s, modernized in the ’50s by oil magnate Ralph Baker, used as a film location in the early eighties, and finally transformed into an warm and stately restaurant in 1988.  Read the rest of this entry

KFC (Kingsway and Royal Oak) – Finger Lickin’ Good?

It’s been ages since I’ve had a bucket of chicken from KFC.  In fact, the last time I remember buying one of their iconic buckets was back when they were known by their full name… Kentucky Fried Chicken.  While most of the KFCs are located in mall food courts now, there are still some old free-standing KFC outlets like the one on Kingsway and Royal Oak in Burnaby.

Thai House Royale (Metrotown) – Lunch Specials

One of the worst kept secrets is the lunch specials at Thai House Royale.  Located at Station Square, we’ve frequented this Thai House location for a number of years and it gets pretty busy during lunchtime due to their fantastic lunch special deals for $7.95.

Keg Steakhouse and Bar (Burnaby) – Flat Iron Goodness

I’m a creature of habit… each time I go to the Keg I always seem to order the boneless beef rib steak – preferably Chicago-style, cooked medium-rare (check out our last visit here).  It’s not that I haven’t tried all of the other cuts and dishes… I just really like how juicy and tender the rib steak is.  Anyhoo, when I saw a different item on their menu the last time we stopped by, I figured I’d give it a shot. White Spot (Lougheed Hwy) – Pulled Pork Big Bowl Breakfast

One of the great things about White Spot is that they open for breakfast pretty early so it’s easy to drop in for some grub when you need to run early morning errands.

Northern Delicacy – Dim Sum in Aberdeen Mall

We were trying to get a jump start on some errands in Richmond the other day and decided to stop in to Northern Delicacy located on the 2nd floor of Aberdeen Mall for some dim sum.  Unfortunately, they didn’t open until 11am on Sunday so we wound up doing some shopping in the mall first (is it just me or is there not a lot of good stores to shop in at Aberdeen other than food places?).

Penang Delight Cafe – Tasty Malaysian Food in East Van

There’s really not a lot of different Malaysian restaurants on the East side of Vancouver  so when I heard about a new Malaysian restaurant opening on Rupert Street, I added it to my wishlist… and there it sat on my list for months.  It’s funny, I used to come to this block every week when I was younger to buy comics but I haven’t been back in years.

Golden Swan Restaurant

On the few past occasions that we’ve been to Golden Swan Restaurant located on Victoria Drive, it was always super busy.  We found ourselves here on a weeknight a little while ago and it was practically dead (which I didn’t mind because the service wasn’t too bad since we practically had the whole restaurant to ourselves). Orange Corner Tea House

We’ve walked by the Orange Corner Tea House in Station Square a number of times while heading to Future Shop and we’ve always meant to stop in to try their crêpes but we’ve always been a bit too busy or in a rush to finish errands.

Roman Ristorante – Traditional Baked Lasagna with Bechamel Sauce

We’ve been getting flyers in the mail for Roman Ristorante (located on Kingsway) for a long time but we’ve never been able to try them out.  The first time we tried coming here, they wound up being closed but we made sure we kept it in mind to try eventually.  The restaurant is pretty small – at most 7 tables and, when we stopped by for take-out one night, a bit chilly.

Cactus Club Cafe (Lougheed) – Holiday Tasting Menu

I’m surprised that we’ve never stopped by the Cactus Club on Lougheed Hwy before considering we often dine at the nearby Milestones.  Read the rest of this entry

Opa! Souvlaki (Metrotown)

As the Greek would say… “Opa!”  What exactly does “Opa!” mean?  Well, it’s basically just an exclamation of joy or jubilant celebration.  And who wouldn’t want to celebrate with a combo plate like this?
