Fisherman’s Terrace Seafood

Fisherman’s Terrace Seafood is a busy Chinese restaurant located on the third floor of Aberdeen Centre in Richmond.  If you’ve managed to fight your way to an empty parking stall, this can be a good place to pick up some dim sum.

I think the dim sum prices are a little bit on the higher side but that doesn’t seem to detour people from dining here.  It was super loud when we visited on the weekend.  It didn’t help that the table next to us had a bunch of screaming kids (with oblivious parents).

We started out with a dish of Steamed Beef Balls.  It’s been ages since I’ve had beef balls with peas (in this case, the beef balls were served atop the peas).  I remember back in the day, most places would mix the peas within the minced beef so you would occasionally have pea-shaped pock marks if the peas fell loose.

Our next dish was the Deep Fried Wontons with Sweet and Sour Sauce. Deep fried wontons is usually a hit or miss with us at different restaurants – some places serve it with thin wonton wrappers stuffed with a meaty filling while others serve it with thick wonton wrappers with very little filling.  Fisherman’s Terrace’s version comes with really large and puffy/flaky wonton wrappers and a bowl of seafood and veggies in sweet and sour sauce on the side.  Despite how messy it was to eat this, we were pleasantly surprised that it was extremely tasty.

The Deep Fried Shrimp Balls were encrusted with a thin breading which gave it a nice crunchy exterior to contrast with the moist filling.

The Pan-Fried Turnips were pretty standard.  I usually like eating Lo Bak Gou with hot sauce but I found that the hot sauce that they gave us didn’t have any kick to it.

These pillowy-soft creations are Steamed Chicken and Mushroom Buns.  These puffy pockets of goodness were piping hot – I love how the steam bursts out when you break these open.

Lastly, we also ordered the Steamed Beef Rice Rolls.  Some places are a little skimpy with the meat but I have to admit that these rice rolls were very meaty.

All-in-all, the food was pretty good but I could have done without all of the screaming kids.
