Soirette Macarons and Tea – Bacon Macaron and Mango Black Pepper Macaron

I don’t find myself in downtown Vancouver very often anymore.  However, many moons ago, I did some work for a to-be-unnamed government agency located a few blocks away from the current location of Soirette Macarons and Tea.  If I had known back then that there would be a great little macaron shop opening within walking distance, I might have stayed with that outfit longer…

Edible Canada at the Market – A Tribute to Canadian Bacon

If you’ve been reading some of my previous posts, you’ll probably get the idea that I like bacon (and chocolate)… so it really shouldn’t be much of a surprise that when I heard about the Tribute to Canadian Bacon at the Edible Canada take out window, I had to try it out when we visited Granville Island recently. Siegel’s Bagels (Granville Island) – Stuffed Bagels

I’ve walked by Siegel’s Bagels many times while maneuvering through the crowded Market at Granville Island but I’ve never taken the time to see what they have to offer… I figured they had bagels but, so what?  I mean, sure, I like bagels but there are so many other things at Granville Island to grab your interest like nearby Lee’s Donuts. The Sandbar Seafood Restaurant – Granville Island Staycation

We decided to make like the many tourists in Vancouver and visit Granville Island for our version of a staycation.  One of our favourite restaurants to visit in Granville Island is The Sandbar located only a short walk away from the Market.

The Buffet at River Rock – Unlimited Chocolate Covered Bacon

The Buffet at River Rock is a sprawling 260 seat restaurant located on the 2nd floor above the River Rock Casino in Richmond… gotta love the spiral escalator – reminds me of the one they have at Caesar’s Palace in Vegas.  Read the rest of this entry

Harmony Donuts – Welcome to the Dreamatorium

In the middle of nowhere, there’s a tiny shop that’s frying up tasty cake donuts with a big selection of glazes and toppings. It would be very easy to drive past this shop and not notice it. Actually, it would be easy to walk into this store and not know that they sell donuts. Read the rest of this entry

House of Taste – Shawarmas in City Square

I used to always avoid the food court in City Square – it always seemed to be a little lacking.  However, on one of our latest trips out to City Square, we were getting a bit hungry and didn’t feel like going to Kirin so we decided to check out the food court and noticed a relatively new outlet serving up Shawarmas.

Solly’s Bagelry (Main Street) – You can’t beat a babka

If you’ve read this blog long enough, you’ve probably seen quite a few references to various tv shows that I’ve grown up watching.  One of the funnier episodes of Seinfeld was The Dinner Party where the gang was trying to buy a chocolate babka to bring to a (you guessed it) dinner party.  Read the rest of this entry

The Reef (Main Street) – Caribbean Brunch

Okay, is it pronounced ka-rih-BEE-uhn or kuh-RIB-ee-uhn?  I guess it doesn’t really matter as long as the food’s good.  If you’re looking for some great tasting Caribbean-inspired fare, you only have to drop by one of two Reef locations in Vancouver to satisfy your cravings. Chongqing Restaurant – Lunch Specials

Some people might complain that the food at Chongqing Restaurant is very westernized but I figure if the food tastes good… does it really matter?  The last time we visited the new Chongqing Restaurant on Kingsway, we were pleasantly pleased that the music that they were playing was from the eighties.  This time around, the music was a mix of new and old but pretty much the same kind of music that we normally listen to (anyone remember Way Back into Love from the Music and Lyrics movie?). Roasty Jack (Brentwood Mall)

The problem with Thanksgiving Day is that it’s so close to Christmas that it seems like you’re constantly having turkey or turkey leftovers for 3-4 months… and then it seems like ages until you have a turkey dinner again. Read the rest of this entry
