Lhy Thai – Thai Food in Burnaby
For some reason, there’s not that many Thai restaurants in Burnaby. I guess because of that fact, Lhy Thai is able to enjoy a fairly popular following in the Edmonds area. It probably doesn’t hurt that the large selection of lunch specials is pretty cheap too.
It’s fairly obvious that the restaurant knows what it’s doing by catering to the tastes of the local community… the flavours are a bit muted and not as distinct as you would expect to find in a Thai restaurant. That’s not to say the food is bad in any way… it’s actually pretty good but a little misleading for my taste buds.
I ordered the Combo #2 which included Green Curry Chicken, rice, satay, and a spring roll. While you can specify the level of spiciness for your food, I find that their idea of “spicy” is based on a more conservative palate (probably due to the preferences of their regular clientelle). I went for the “spicy” option but was disappointed that the dish was quite tame.
The food came out really quick – most of the lunch specials lends themselves to being pre-made. Given how busy this tiny restaurant gets during lunchtime, it’s probably a good thing.
If you like your food very spicy, you might be a little disappointed here but if you’re just looking for some quick, tasty, and cheap Asian food, you’ll probably enjoy the food here.
