Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt (Cambie)
Frozen Yogurt seems to be making a big comeback with places like Pinkberry and now Menchie’s opening up in the Lower Mainland. Unlike Pinkberry, Menchie’s is basically a do-it-yourself froyo establishment where you choose your mix of frozen yogurt flavours and toppings. The benefit of this is that you get exactly what you want… the drawback is that you may wind up buying more than you would normally.
When we visited, there was only one size cup available – I could easily see how the large cup would encourage people to try to fill it up (and since you pay by the weight… fill up the cash register).
The cups themselves were cute (as were the little plastic spoons they provided). We sampled all of the flavours and I wound up swirling the Chocolate Mint with the Boysenberry while my date went with the classic flavours of Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry.
The toppings available are similar to Pinkberry – there were plenty of different fruity-flavoured bubbles/pearls… I liked the lychee and passion fruit the best. And how can you not like Fruit Loops with your yogurt? I think Pinkberry actually had more toppings that appealed to me and might be a better deal because their toppings are unlimited (well – at least as much as will fit into the cup). Overall, the flavours that we tried were good and I like the fact that I get to control exactly how much of each topping I get.
Occasionally, Menchie’s brings in some new flavours… here I swirled up some raspberry lemonade and strawberry sorbet along with chocolate hazelnut and mango yogurt.

Mango, chocolate, strawberry and raspberry…how did that taste? Those spoons are rather delightful.
The great thing is they let you try out the flavours first so you can see which flavours you like.
