Eggs ‘n Things (Waikiki Beach) – Hawaii 2013
There’s nothing better than starting out a morning with a good breakfast. And when that breakfast just happens to be served in Hawaii… it’s just all that much better. Eggs ‘n Things has been around Waikiki since 1974 and they have a few locations right now (their flagship store is located near the Ala Moana Center) but the one that we visited was their busy “eggspress” location right across from the beach with a great view of the ocean.
They do brisk takeout service where some patrons undoubtedly take their meals to enjoy on the beach but there is a small seating area inside as well. Lineups can get fairly long so it’s a good idea to go early. The first queue is just to order your meal followed by a short line at the cashier to pay. We were lucky that we didn’t have to wait for a table and sat down right away right next to a view of Kalakaua Avenue and the beach.
I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict ($13.95) with a side of Chocolate Chip Pancakes ($3.95) and POG ($4.95 – I’m guessing it was pineapple, orange, and guava as their drink menu didn’t list passion fruit). My eggs were perfectly cooked with runny yolks that draped the entire benny. While I’m not usually a big pancake fan, I’ll have to admit that the chocolate chip pancakes were wickedly awesome and had plenty of chocolate chips within the 3 fluffy pancakes.
One thing for sure is that they’re not shy with the whip cream… Next to the Blueberry Whip Cream with Nuts Pancakes ($5.95 add-on) is the Veggie Omelet with Ham ($11.95 + $2.25) which comes with mushrooms, zucchini, spinach and cheese. The Plantation Iced Tea ($4.25) is basically pineapple juice and tea.
For your pancakes, you can top them off with maple, coconut, or guava syrup… my preference was for the guava.
Meals here can get expensive with all of the add-ons available but it’s a worthwhile way to start off your morning.
Open from 6am – 2pm and 4pm – 10pm daily.
