Church’s Chicken (Lougheed) – Memories of Deep-Fried Apple Pies

Those of you that are old enough will remember when McDonald’s used to serve deep-fried apple pies.  The crispy, crunchy, deep-fried crust filled with chunks of tender apple and gooey sauce… what’s not to love?  Then, one day (about the same time the McPizza debuted in Canada), they mysteriously vanished only to be replaced with the far inferior “baked” apple pie.

Chicken Connection (Las Vegas – Fashion Show Mall)

The Chicken Connection is another food stall in the Fashion Show Mall where you can grab a quick bite after some serious shopping.

Chewies Steam & Oyster Bar – Southern Fried Goodness

What do you get when you cross Rodney’s Oyster House and Ouisi Bistro?  A casual spot where you can pick up some great raw oysters on the half shell along with southern comfort food. 

Max’s Restaurant – Cuisine of the Philippines

I first noticed a new restaurant along Kingsway a couple of months ago.  At the time, I wasn’t sure what kind of food they served – all I could tell was that it seemed bright and clean and had an inconspicuous name… Max’s Restaurant.  I figured it was either a new burger joint or some kind of fast food outlet.

Church’s Chicken (Slocan)

Fried chicken just tends to make you feel better about life… and Church’s Chicken has been one of my favourite fast food fried chicken places for a long time.  I know a lot of people like KFC but I find their chicken a bit too dry.  Church’s, on the other hand, is both juicy on the inside and super crispy on the outside.

The Boss Restaurant (Metrotown)

The Boss Restaurant located in Metrotown (next to Zellers) always seems busy so when we were walking by one day and noticed a lull in the crowds, we decided to drop in and try them out again. 

KFC (Kingsway and Royal Oak) – Finger Lickin’ Good?

It’s been ages since I’ve had a bucket of chicken from KFC.  In fact, the last time I remember buying one of their iconic buckets was back when they were known by their full name… Kentucky Fried Chicken.  While most of the KFCs are located in mall food courts now, there are still some old free-standing KFC outlets like the one on Kingsway and Royal Oak in Burnaby.

Dinesty Chinese Restaurant – Dim Sum

I’m not going to lie… I used to make fun of the name “Dinesty Chinese Restaurant” whenever we used to drive by it in Richmond.  Instead of a clever play on words, I figured it was just a typical Chinese misspelling that you see so often in translated signs and menus.

KFC (Metrotown)

When I was a kid, I used to like KFC (back then, it was still called Kentucky Fried Chicken).  I should clarify… I used to like the chicken skin from KFC.  Things were simpler back then… chicken places served chicken and burger places served burgers.  While I’m not a big fan of KFC’s regular chicken anymore (I find it too dry and the skin overly spiced), I still try their chicken burgers every now and again.

Nando’s Chicken (Metrotown)

Nando’s Chicken is a huge chain-type restaurant that started in South Africa in 1987 and has expanded to 30 countries worldwide.  I’ve seen some of their stand alone restaurants but have never bothered to eat there because I’ve always thought their prices were a bit expensive for what they serve.
