Shiang Garden Seafood Restaurant

The one thing that always seems certain when going for dim sum in Richmond is that parking is always a concern.  Even when space is plentiful, you’re still at the mercy of bad drivers or people who insist on backing their minivans into parking stalls (I’m not against backing into a parking space per se but if it takes you more than 2 tries… maybe you shouldn’t bother).

Sundays tend to be errand days for us and this rare non-rainy March day was no different.  Throw in a run to Costco and Sophie needing to visit the dog park; it wasn’t until almost 2:30pm before we managed to get something to eat (I’m not counting the quick hot dog at Costco).

Cindy’s Palace – Dim Sum

Cindy’s Palace is a small restaurant located at the corner of Nanaimo and 2nd Avenue in Vancouver.  There’s actually not a lot of large tables in the restaurant – there only seemed to be a few tables that could fit 8 or more people comfortably - most looked like medium-sized tables that could fit at most 6 people or smaller-sized tables for 4 people.

Wah Lun Chinese Restaurant – Dim Sum

On a Sunday morning Costco outing in early January, we decided to grab some dim sum beforehand.  The main problem being that Burnaby has a definite lack of choices when it comes to dim sum.

Kirin Seafood Restaurant (New West)

We don’t make it down to Queensborough Landing anymore due to all the traffic congestion down there but we found ourselves doing some xmas shopping around the area in late November and wound up looking for some eats at Kirin Seafood Restaurant at the casino.

Shanghai River – Dim Sum

In all honesty, I don’t really consider this visit a “dim sum” post despite coming here during the usual dim sum hour.  Sure, we ordered Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) – but you have to order these if you ever dine at Shanghai River.  People (including us) order this signature dish at dinner time too because it’s just so gosh darn good.

The Jade Seafood Restaurant – Dim Sum

Despite the countless number of dim sum places in the Lower Mainland, we usually wind up going to the same restaurants (especially if it’s convenient and the food is good).  Recently, we’ve been trying to expand our horizons…  it’s always a good thing to have a stable of go-to places in case a fav restaurant closes out.

Golden Swan Restaurant – Dim Sum

We didn’t intially plan on going to Golden Swan for dim sum back in June.  In fact, we tried to go to Western Lake for dim sum but the wait was over an hour at 10:30am.  Instead of waiting, we decided to walk up Victoria Drive and hit up the much larger Golden Swan Restaurant.

Grand Dynasty Seafood Restaurant – Dim Sum Slots

We came to Grand Dynasty Seafood Restaurant on an early Sunday morning for dim sum (they open at 9:30am).  Located next to the Grand Villa Casino in Burnaby, there is plenty of free parking in the nearby lot.

Fortune House Seafood – Dim Sum

Dim Sum at Fortune House Seafood Restaurant can get very busy (and noisy) during weekends… especially around 11am.  That’s why when we visit, we try to come here early.  They actually open at 9am on weekends and it’s much easier to get a table and avoid the mall crowds around this time.

Kirin Seafood Restaurant (Starlight Casino) – Dim Sum

Our misadventures in dining seem to be an on-going theme with us.  We were checking out the new Lowe’s down in Queensborough and decided to try out the Kirin Seafood Restaurant located in the nearby Starlight Casino for dim sum. 

Shi-Art Chinese Cuisine – Dim Sum

We’ve walked past Shi-Art Chinese Cuisine whenever we head down to Richmond Centre but we’ve never ventured in until recently.  Our dim sum didn’t start out too well but it did get better as the meal progressed.
