My first visit to Wings (not to be confused with House of Wings a few blocks away) was on a late December weekday.  The lighting inside this pub is quite bright but the decor is mainly dark tones with black tables & seating, and dark coffered ceilings.

Samz Pub (Pitt Meadows) – The Legend of the Lost Pitt Lake Gold Mine

Samz Pub recently opened up last year in the old Golden Ears Pub location in Pitt Meadows.  For those of you unaware, Pitt Meadows takes its name from the youngest British Prime Minister, William Pitt the Younger and the fact that the area is largely a flood plain next to the Pitt River (gee, I’m starting to sound like Sheldon now)… Interesting enough, William Pitt the Younger is referred to as “the Younger” to distinguish him from his father, William Pitt “the Elder”, also a former British Prime Minister.

Dublin Castle Neighbourhood Grill – Pot Pies and Poutine

If you’re looking for a quaint little pub that serves up some good eats, you only have to drop by the old BC Penitentiary Guard House located in New West.  As I mentioned on my last visit to Dublin Castle, it’s a little difficult finding this place if you’ve never been here before but it’s worth the trip.

Whet Kitchen.Bar.Patio

There are so many great places to dine at Granville Island… I guess it’s a good thing that we don’t live closer otherwise we’d never leave.  Whet is located near the entrance of Granville Island (where the old Sammy J Peppers used to be) across from the Kids Market.

Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar (Fairview)

Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar recently opened up a new location on West Broadway kitty corner to the Cactus Club.  The large restaurant was pretty dead when we arrived for lunch on a sunny October Sunday which gave us ample opportunity to take in all of the colours and textures in the interior design.

Paddlewheeler Neighbourhood Pub

My best way to describe the Paddlewheeler Neighbourhood Pub at the Quay in New West is “old”.  Don’t get me wrong, they have a fairly big patio that overlooks the boardwalk and large screen tvs all over the place but everything about this pub feels a bit tired.  When we stopped to look around at the other patrons, we noticed that we were probably the youngest there by a long shot (and we’re not spring chickens anymore).

Flying Beaver Bar and Grill

After a quick visit to the Ikea in Richmond, we were looking for some good lunch offerings but didn’t feel like Asian because we were just at Cattle Cafe the previous day.  I know, Richmond isn’t the best place to be if you’re looking for non-Asian restaurants but I had a place in mind.

Original Joe’s (Vancouver)

I recall eating at a restaurant located on the 2nd floor of the South East corner of Cambie and Broadway many years ago.  I’m not quite sure but I think it was a Fogg n’ Suds location but it closed out years ago.  I’ve seen the Original Joe’s that replaced it many times as I’ve driven along Broadway but I’m not sure why we haven’t tried them out until now.

Be knowin’ my fine friend, there be only 289 days ’til the wearin’ o’ the green.  St. Patrick’s Day!  Sure and b’geezus – we’ll all have a grand time.

Red Lion Bar & Grill

If you were to ask me to describe examples of English cuisine, I probably couldn’t name anything other than fish and chips and bangers and mash.  Fortunately, there’s a pub located in Dundarave that helps to dispel the common myth that British food is nothing to write home about.
