Sa Rang Chae – Korean Food on Edmonds
Sa Rang Chae is located right next door to Osaka Island in a little mini-mall on Edmonds. Lunch here during the weekday is pretty dead but at least that means that the food comes out pretty quick. Read the rest of this entry
Kenzo Japanese Noodle House
I’ve often seen Kenzo Japanese Noodle House as I drive past it on Kingsway but from the reviews, I couldn’t really tell if this was a Japanese or Korean place… not that it really matters. Read the rest of this entry
Kyung Bok Palace
I remember coming to Kyung Bok Palace many years ago but haven’t been back for a while. Back in the day (I’m guessing when it first opened) it was quite a busy AYCE joint as there were long line ups for dinner. At one point, I thought they had closed down but it looks like they are still kicking around. Read the rest of this entry
Cartel Taco at the Waldorf
As I mentioned on my last post on Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck, The Waldorf has been holding an East Van Food Fest every Sunday. It was super hot the week that we visited with very little shade (save for the large parking lot billboard that was casting a narrow but pleasant shadow). Read the rest of this entry
Happy Day Metro House
I’ve seen Happy Day Metro House on the corner of Kingsway and Marlborough many times as I’ve driven through Burnaby but it always looked a little sketchy from the outside. Plus, the name almost sounds like it’s some kind of sleezy massage parlor. Read the rest of this entry
Koryo Korean BBQ (Richmond Centre) – Jumbo Combo for Jumbo Appetites
Korean restaurants tend to be a bit on the expensive side and the same can be said of their fast food counterparts. Take, for example, Koryo Korean BBQ located in the Richmond Centre food court (which has free wi-fi). At $9.99, their Jumbo Combo is one of the more expensive dishes in their menu but you really do get a lot of food.
Kim Bo Ting – Beef and Kimchi on Rice
Sometimes, you just want something simple and comforting to eat. You’ve had a hard day at work, you’ve been fighting through the masses at the mall trying to get your xmas shopping done, your feet are hurting, and you just want something that tastes good in your tummy. Read the rest of this entry
Jang Mo Jib (Burnaby) – Expensive Korean Food
I’ve been thinking of trying Jang Mo Jib for a while now… it’s actually located pretty close to Meok Ja Gol on Kingsway in the old Knight & Day location. The restaurant itself is pretty big with large murals on the walls. Read the rest of this entry
Insadong Korean BBQ and Seafood Restaurant
Insadong is a pretty popular Korean restaurant along the Burnaby/Coquitlam border but it was very quiet when we visited for lunch during the weekday… which suits me just fine because I’ve been getting tired of fighting through all of the masses of people at the mall during xmas shopping.
Jang Mo Jib (Aberdeen Centre) – Chicken Bool Go Gee Lunch Box
I’m not sure why the ratings for Jang Mo Jib in Aberdeen are so low. The prices are a little expensive, but most Korean places tend to be slightly higher in price and the serving size you get with their lunch special boxes is pretty good.
Meok Ja Gol (MJG) – Hole-in-the-Wall Korean Restaurant
Meok Ja Gol (or MJG as it is sometimes called) is the epitome of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. You can see the back of the restaurant from Kingsway, next to a gas station. The actual main entrance is on Newton Street, next to a “massage parlor”.
Hanwoori Korean Restaurant
I know it’s been less than a week since we had a yummy Korean-fest at Dae Bak Bon Ga on West 4th but we weren’t feeling like cooking tonight so we thought we’d try out Hanwoori Korean Restaurant. I’ve heard of it before and it’s only a stone’s throw away from one of our current favourite Korean places… Potter’s Garden.
The inside of the restaurant is actually a lot more spacious and bright than I thought it would be. Like Potter’s Garden, they have a couple of large flat screen tv’s on the wall but they had the screen split with a large ad showing in Korean so you couldn’t really see the variety show that was playing.
