Before and After: Sunday Brunch at Reflect Social Dining + Lounge
As Craigy Ferg always says, “tomorrow’s just your future yesterday”. Why do I bring this up? I’ll get to that later.
Tucked away in the the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown (which is a little misleading since it’s actually located at The Crystal Mall in Burnaby) lies a little unassuming restaurant. If you’re never been here before, you couldn’t be blamed for passing it by or missing it completely. It seems as if they have done everything in their power to make it difficult for people to find the place.
If the darn circular parking lot at Crystal Mall didn’t confuse you enough and you were able to find your way into the mall, you’re in for multiple layers of confusion. The mall itself is arranged in concentric circles on multiple floors and signage is a bit lacking. If you’re feeling like you’re lost and going in circles, you’re probably right. On the off chance that you find your way to the Hilton, you still have to find the restaurant that’s tucked away in a little corner past the washrooms.
Oh, and did I mention that the brunch is only available on Sundays between 10:30am and 2:30pm – so there’s a really short window if you’re craving brunch here.
Now back to what I was talking about before… In the past, this restaurant used to be called Crystal Grille but is now known as Reflect Social Dining + Lounge (gee what a long name). For about $30, you get champagne mimosas along with a very extensive brunch including your regular breakfast items, salads, carving and omlette station, various hot food items and a really big dessert selection.
Usually, they have a guitarist named Michael Gillette playing in the lounge (yes, we did buy one of his cds) but we didn’t see him the last time we went.
In keeping with the before and after theme, here are some before and after pictures of my attempts to overindulge…
First up, some mussels, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, shrimp, and a bunch of small salad items (you can’t see, but there’s also half of a benny under there too).
Next up, some dim sum, roasted vegetables, fish, ribs, roast beef, proscuitto, and some various salads.
Three times a charm and I was starting to feel a little full so this plate was a little lighter: eggs, bacon and sausages, fresh fruit, veggies, salad and shrimp.
And last but not least, dessert… The cupcake and chocolate-coated cone were the best but this plate doesn’t do justice to the sheer amount of great looking desserts that were available. Everything from fresh fruits, flans, cheeses and spreads, cakes galore, flans, trifles, etc…
Very attentive staff and good food…what more could you ask for?
