Pine House Bakery – Kingsway

There’s a noticeable difference in the cakes that you get at a western bakery and the ones you get at an Asian bakery… not that one is better than the other – they’re just different.

For instance, one of the classic Asian-style cakes is the fresh fruit cake.  Pine House Bakery puts together a pretty good example…  just look at the kiwi, strawberries, grapes, dragonfruit, cantaloupe, and honeydew.  But the toppings are just the beginning as they also place fresh fruit between the sponge cake layers.

Pine House also makes mousse cakes which are another classic Asian-style cake.  Their mango mousse cake is a very light and airy mousse and is not as heavy as western-style cakes.

Pine House also makes a gigantic cookie… it’s difficult to tell from the picture but it’s huge.  The problem is that it’s more like a cake than a cookie in texture.

Of course, one of the main problems with shopping at an Asian bakery is the language barrier… it took a lot more effort in trying to order these cakes than I expected.
