Keg Steakhouse and Bar (Burnaby) – Flat Iron Goodness

I’m a creature of habit… each time I go to the Keg I always seem to order the boneless beef rib steak – preferably Chicago-style, cooked medium-rare (check out our last visit here).  It’s not that I haven’t tried all of the other cuts and dishes… I just really like how juicy and tender the rib steak is.  Anyhoo, when I saw a different item on their menu the last time we stopped by, I figured I’d give it a shot.

Of course, no Keg dinner would be complete without their complimentary Sourdough Bread with whipped butter.

I love freshly baked bread but I’m always worried that I’ll fill up on too much of it before the rest of the food comes.

We also ordered some appetizers including bacon-wrapped scallops served with a zesty martini cocktail sauce and mushroom caps stuffed with crab and cream cheese.  The crab and cream cheese goes great with the sourdough bread by the way.

My Flat Iron Steak with Asparagus and a Twice-Baked Potato came out perfect.  The tender cut of beef was served medium-rare on a port reduced mushroom bacon sauce for $22.95.  Just looking at this picture makes me want to go back and have it again!  Despite only being 8 oz (my Rib Steak is usually 16 oz), this was a pretty filling meal.

I’ve always wanted to try the Truffle Macaroni and Cheese ($5.95) and I’m glad that I decided to give it a whirl.  This was surprisingly one of the better macaroni and cheese dishes that I’ve had – it was deliciously creamy and cheesy.

I’m surprised that this is just a side dish… it’s so good that it could be an entrée – maybe add some cut up steak chunks… oooh!  If anyone at the Keg is listening… this would be a winner dish!

Just look at how creamy that mac and cheese is!

This Keg always seems to be busy but the service is pretty good (at least in the beginning of your meal).  Our water service came out to three refills within the first hour and a half and they made sure to check in on our party a few times.  By the end of the meal, however, things seemed to drag on and it seemed like they forgot all about us.  We were there for another forty minutes with no water refills.  I suppose it was a bit busier and perhaps they didn’t want to seem like they were rushing us to pay and leave.

If you can… make sure you save room for dessert.  The S’mores and Brownie Sundae are always a winner.
