Mezbaan Fine Indian Fusion
We first tried Mezbaan Fine Indian Fusion over a year ago (a little bit before we started our food blog) but haven’t had the chance to revisit until just recently. Like a lot of other Indian restaurants, they do offer a buffet – but I’ve been trying to steer clear of East Indian buffets lately because the sauces tend to be quite rich and the rice and naan fill you up so quickly.
The food here is quite good and reminds me a lot of Saffron in Burnaby. Butter Chicken tends to be a favourite dish and we almost always order it – the sauce is perfect for dipping your naan or to sop up with rice.
The first time I heard of vindaloo was when I used to watch reruns of Red Dwarf on PBS at 2am when I was still in school… I’ve held a special place in my heart for vindaloo ever since and usually wind up ordering it if it’s available. This time around, I picked the Lamb Vindaloo… just like the Butter Chicken, the sauce is perfect for dipping.
The Mixed Platter comes with 2 vegetarian samosas, chicken and vegetable pakoras… just like the naan that we ordered, these are great when you dip them in the butter chicken or vindaloo sauce.
I wanted to have some veggies too and the hostess recommended the Vegetable Jalfrezi. This was a very good choice – sometimes when we order veggies at an Indian restaurant, we wind up with a lot of potatoes but this version had plenty of different veggies cooked in an onion and tomato sauce.
My only complaint about all of the yummy sauces at Mezbaan is that my fingers were still yellow from the curry sauce for a couple of days afterwards… I guess that’s just the price you have to pay when you eat curry.
