Fresh Box Sushi

Fresh Box Sushi is a tiny hole-in-the-wall Japanese restaurant located on the 2nd floor of Highgate Mall.  There’s only 3 small tables in this narrow establishment with a small sushi bar and 1 table outside but i think they do a lot of takeout business.

On my first visit, I ordered the Deluxe Sashimi Box ($13.95) which came with a bowl of miso soup.  The soup was good and had tiny tofu cubes in the broth.

The food actually came out pretty quick.  My box lunch came with a simple salad with tangy dressing, two pieces of prawn tempura, two pieces of yam tempura, and 1 each of carrot and green bean tempura.  I opted for the chicken teriyaki which came served on rice with some veggies.  For a small sushi joint, the chicken was quite good.  Since this was the Deluxe Sashimi Box, it also came with salmon and tuna sashimi, tamago and a slice of fish that I couldn’t identify.  The sashimi pieces here are a little on the small side and I wouldn’t necessarily consider tamago (egg) as “sashimi” but they were good nonetheless.  Lastly, the box also came with a special item (kind of like the boxes at Kiku Sushi)… in this case, a piece of deep fried fish.

I came back later in the week for some takeout and ordered the Kiss of Fire Roll ($11.95).

The Salmon and Tuna Sashimi ($8.50) seems a little expensive considering how small the pieces are.

The Unagi ($1.75 each) and Tamago ($1.00 each).
