The Boathouse (Richmond) – Lobster Fest

The Boathouse has a number of different locations but we usually head over to the Boathouse in New Westminster because it’s nearby.  On this early March night, however, we decided to go on a journey to the Richmond location.  I’ve known of this place before but I also knew that getting there (even with Google Maps) can be a bit tricky.  As it turned out, we did have a bit of trouble finding the place but eventually arrived at our destination after some liberal interpretations of traffic bylaws (but that’s not too unusual for driving in Richmond).

The Boathouse has various special menus during the year and on our visit, we were happy to gorge ourselves on Lobster Fest!  I just love the way that sounds… “Lobster Fest” – it sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it.

We started out our meal with some sourdough bread and whipped butter.

While you can order your lobster meals à la carte, it’s a better deal if you go with their 3-course lobster meals.  And while you can choose a salad for your starter, my recommendation would be to start with the Lobster Bisque that’s poured at the table from a gravy boat.

For some reason, The Boathouse no longer has the Classic Fried Oysters on their menu so the next best appy is the Calamari for Two ($14.99) served with tzatziki and sweet chili sauce.

The Salmon topped with Lobster Thermidor entrée option ($35.99) comes with lobster meat, shrimp, mushrooms and a sherry cream sauce on top of the wild sockeye filet.

For my meal, I picked the Sirloin with 4oz Stuffed Atlantic Lobster Tail entrée option ($39.99).  The lobster tail is stuffed with cream cheese, crab meat and fresh herbs and the dish came with a mountain of mashed potatoes that even I couldn’t finish.  The sirloin was cooked to a beautiful medium-rare and had a bounce to it when pressed upon with my fork.

For your dessert you can choose between the Chocolate Mud Pie or the Molten Chocolate Brownie.  The Chocolate Mud Pie (ours toppled over on the plate) isn’t as big as the Billy Miner Pie that you would get at The Keg but after our big meal, we were pretty stuffed.  I think I preferred the warm Molten Chocolate Brownie as it wasn’t too sweet.
