A&W (Highgate) – Homestyle Sausage n’ Egger
Most A&W locations nowadays are found near or inside malls but the location on Kingsway near Highgate almost looks like a throwback to the glory days of a bygone era. It’s quite unusual to still find such a large stand-alone A&W in Vancouver. While not operating as a drive-in (they do have a 24-hour drive through though), this location seems like they have enough space for it if that fad ever came back.
Upon entering the establishment on an early weekday morning, I quickly realized why you don’t see many of these stand-alone locations anymore… aside from a couple of elderly patrons, the cavernous interior seemed practically deserted.
Among the big fast food chains (McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s and A&W), I think I still prefer A&W even though I’ve noticed that lately, they are becoming more like their competitors.
My breakfast this morning consisted of the Homestyle Sausage n’ Egger which comes with a tomato slice, Hashbrowns, and Apple Juice.
While you can’t compare this to a Super Terrific Happy Big Breakfast McMuffin (some assembly required), this is my 2nd favourite fast food greasy breakfast meal.
