Sandar’s Thai Garden – Thai Food in Newton

Ahhh!  Rootin’ Tootin’ Newton!  Home of the Krispy Kreme and more sushi joints than you can shake a stick at.  But what if you’re not in the mood for some really sweet fried snacks or California rolls?  Well, there’s a really decent Thai place on 120th Street/Scott Road in the same complex as Shoppers Drug Mart.

The lunch specials are all $10  (tax included) and includes a crispy spring roll and soup or salad.  I really liked the soup – it was fragrant and had a bold flavour (unlike some other places that tone down their soup).

The Green Curry Chicken came with a medium spice level which turned out to be perfect for me.  There was plenty of tender chicken along with eggplant, peppers, green beans, and Thai basi in the curry sauce.  I really wasn’t expecting much for a Thai place in Newton but I turned out to be rather impressed.

The restaurant itself is a bit small and narrow but it wasn’t too busy on my weekday lunch visit in July.  The seating was comfortable and they had some Asian music playing softly in the background.  I do appreciate that the music wasn’t too loud because some restaurants really crank up the mood music to the point that it’s difficult to enjoy your meal.
