Taco Bell (Guildford) – Spicy Chicken Crunchwrap

It feels like eons since the last time we were at Guildford Shopping Centre… and for good reason.  Living and working on the north side of the Fraser River means I rarely have a reason to cross one of the overcrowded bridges.

Back in the day, Guildford Shopping Centre was considered one of the largest in BC but that has since been eclipsed by the likes of Metrotown.  Even Richmond Centre which supposedly has a smaller square footage seems to be bigger than Guildford (perhaps because so many shops were closed when we visited Surrey).  They are doing a lot of construction in the area so they are no doubtedly looking at trying to renovate and revitalize the mall.

One thing that really needs a make over is their food court.  For a mall this size, the food court is tiny and feels really cramped.  On the plus side, they do have a Taco Bell.  I know, I know… it’s the McDonald’s of “Mexican food”.  Note:  this post was written when we visited in the middle of July.  Guildford is unveiling their expansion this week including an expansion to their food court.

The other day, we were watching the Anne Hathaway movie One Day in which she was trying to explain the various types of Mexican food: “A tortilla is either corn or wheat, but a corn tortilla folded and filled is a taco, whereas a filled wheat tortilla is a burrito. A deep fried burrito is a chimichanga. Toasted tortilla, it’s a tostada, roll it, it’s an enchilada.”  Where am I going with this?  I’m not sure either but I wonder where the Spicy Chicken Crunchwrap falls in there?

The Nacho Revolution Combo is probably as far from authentic Mexican food that you can get.  You get an order of Doritos Nacho Supreme and the crunchwrap (a tortilla filled with chicken, nacho cheese sauce, a tostada shell, sour cream, lettuce and tomatoes).  While I do enjoy Doritos from time to time, they really didn’t work well in the Nachos Supreme.
