Black Rook Bakehouse – Doris and Rufus

One of the interesting things about Black Rook Bakehouse in East Van is that a lot of their products have their own names.

Doris ($5.25) is the name of this light and airy lemon verbena chiffon cake with hazelnut daquoise, white chocolate, lemon cream and golden swiss meringue.

Rufus ($2.25), on the other hand, is a brown puffed rice bar that incorporates peanut butter, white chocolate and rich dark chocolate.   It reminds me a bit of the nutella krispie that we had from Purebread.

I don’t recall the name of this Lemon Bar ($2.25) but it surely deserves a name.  Not overly tart but with just the right amount of lemon flavour.

On our last visit, we really enjoyed their Beef Brisket Pot Pie.  Unfortunately, they don’t always have it available when we drop by (must be popular).  On the plus side, their Chicken Quiche ($5.75) makes a darn good substitute.  It has a nice flaky crust and the savory chicken filling was decidedly hearty.  I really enjoyed how the cheese formed a perfect crust on the top.
