Glenburn Soda Fountain & Confectionery
Ever since Glenburn Soda opened up in Burnaby Heights, I’ve been wanting to try them out… Of course, leave it for us to go for a sundae in November when it’s freezing at night.
Despite the below zero weather, when we saw Glenburn across the street while dining at Sfinaki, we knew we were going to stop by for dessert. While they have a large menu written on the front wall, they also have a printed special menu which is where we found the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae ($8.50).
There’s not a lot of seating in this store (couple of tables) but they also have a counter where you can sit and watch the “soda jerks” with their characteristic white hats work up their mixology skills.
As it wasn’t too busy, our dessert came up pretty quick. There was a dense chocolate brownie topped by a large mountain of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry with hot fudge sauce drizzled over the whole thing.
Unless you’ve got a big appetite, this is a dessert best shared. While the dessert was good and I know that Glenburn uses a lot of locally sourced ingredients, I thought the vanilla ice cream just wasn’t doing it for me and would have more enjoyed more real vanilla bean flavour.
So remember, no need to wait until the hot summer weather to check out Glenburn Soda Fountain. I’ll have to come back another time because I hear they often carry pies from The Pie Hole.
