Cactus Club Cafe (Lougheed) – Short Rib Sandwich

It’s been a couple of years since our last visit to the Cactus Club on Lougheed.  But, being a chain restaurant, the food is pretty much consistent across the board.

On this visit, we opted for all finger food items.  The Thai Chicken Wings ($11) are always a staple when we visit.

The Fish Tacos ($14) can be a bit tricky to eat.  The thin, soft shell tortilla is just large enough to contain the lingcod, shredded green cabbage, salsa fresca, and chipotle aioli… but it’s still a challenge to eat it without making a mess.

The Short Rib Sandwich ($16) remains one of my favourite sandwiches here (along with the Grilled Tuna Club and the BBQ Duck Clubhouse).  The short rib sandwich layers caramelized onions, emmental cheese, and shredded short rib meat between toasted sourdough bread.  There’s really no dignified way to eat this sandwich… you just have to go for it.  I like to soak my sandwich in the beef jus… so tasty and messy all at the same time.
