Pamola Bakery & Deli – Tacos and Lemon Bar
Tacos at a bakery? I must have walked by this bakery a number of times and never noticed that they also serve hot Mexican food too. I guess I can’t be blamed too much… this shop in the Quay has a large display of pastries that you would find in most regular bakeries. However, if you look towards the back of the bakery, you’ll see a large menu where you can also order tacos, tortas, burritos, and other Mexican dishes.
I decided to get the Three Taco Meal ($8.49) along with my Lemon Bar ($1.99) and Mango Jumex Juice ($1.99).
I found that the tacos had really soft corn tortillas that made it difficult to pick up without spilling the filling everywhere. The Tinga chicken with onions and spicy tomato sauce was good. Although I wasn’t a fan of the Steak grilled with onions as the meat was a bit chewy. The best of the tacos was the Cochinita – slow cooked pork that’s marinated in a sour orange and achiote sauce and served with pickled onions. The beans in the meal were both smooth and creamy… not to mention filling.
The Lemon Bar was sweet with a substantial crust but not very tart. I think it would have been better with more lemon flavour.
