Vij’s Rangoli

I finally had the chance to stop by Vij’s Rangoli on West 11th recently and was super impressed by the flavours. They’ve done a good job of tempering the spices as not to overwhelm the palates of their regular visitors.

I started out with a Mango Lassi ($5) – this thick concoction has a nice tart finish and helps to cut through the heat from the curry.

I ordered the Lamb in Cumin and Light Cream Curry ($16) with salad, rice, and naan. The tender lamb came with onions and red peppers and wasn’t overpowering. The naan was just perfect – the exterior had a slight hint of crispness and the inside was puffy, chewy, and toothsome.

This restaurant is on the small side with red tiled walls and a view into the kitchen with accompanying Indian music playing in the background. Sure, it might seem a bit tame if you’re used to Indian food… but everything was well executed and I would come back again if given the chance.
