La Taqueria (Cambie Street)

I’ve been looking forward to trying out La Taqueria for quite some time. The location on Cambie Street near Broadway always seems so busy whenever I pass by. Fortunately, I managed to visit seconds before the lunch crowd rushed through the door.

I decided to pick the 4 meat tacos for $9.50 special that they had going on so I could try out the different flavours. Despite how busy they are, the food comes out very quickly (or at least it did for me). With my meal, I added a Guava Jarritos ($3) – I really like this Mexican pop and love the different flavours they have.

Clockwise from the top-left:

  • Al Pastor – Pork Marinated in Achiote Chili and Pineapple
  • De Cachete – Braised Beef Cheeks
  • Pescado – Zarandeado Fish with Chipotle Mayo, Radish and Pepitas
  • Carnitas – Pork Confit with Pickled Red Onions

All of the tacos were served on pairs of soft tortillas. These are definitely “wet” tacos as there’s plenty of juice that squirts out when you take a bite. I use the “head tilt” method to try to prevent any of the filling from falling out but, sometimes, it’s a lost cause. Overall, the ingredients tasted very fresh and the meat fillings were juicy and tender. My favourites were the beef cheeks and carnitas.
