Renfrew Cafe – Matcha Mochi Anko Pie

Renfrew Cafe is a cute little shop located diagonally across from Notre Dame Secondary School selling an assortment of savory and sweet pies… and who doesn’t love pies?

The inside of the shop seems clean and tidy with wooden tables.

If there’s anything that I love more than pie… it’s hot chocolate. I ordered the 8oz Hot Chocolate and was pleasantly surprised by the artful heart shape on the top. With the February sun making an unexpected (but welcome) appearance through the window, I have to admit that it really doesn’t get better than peacefully enjoying a hot chocolate with relaxing music in the background.

But my main visit was to try out the pies… Their dessert pies are located in the showcase and the Matcha Mochi Anko Pie ($4) was calling out to me (you can add ice cream if you want). The pie itself had a nice flaky exterior and the sweet red bean (anko) paste mixed with the slightly chewy mochi filling and was very pleasing.

I wouldn’t mind coming back sometime and trying their savory pies.
