Valley Sushi – Unassuming Spot in Lynn Valley Village
Valley Sushi is a medium-sized restaurant located in Lynn Valley Village. Finding ourselves hungry in the area, we decided to stop by and grab some eats. It’s rather unassuming from the outside but the interior seemed clean and inviting.
Next up was the Spicy Agedashi Tofu ($5), again, quite well prepared with a pleasant presentation.
The Spicy Tuna and Salmon Sashimi ($11) was a good pick. The crunchy cucumbers contrasted nicely to the texture of the fresh sashimi.
Finally, we had the Oyako Don ($8) with chicken, egg, veggies, and clear noodles. A solid interpretation.
Overall, the food here was quite good but we were disappointed that the tea was cold.
We came back for a revisit (I think the prices have gone up slightly since our last visit). We started out with some cones… the Negitoro ($4) and Scallop Masago ($4.5) looked pretty. But as it turned out, all of the filling was on the top of the cone so you got past the first bite or two and it was just rice. I prefer cones where the filling is throughout the cone.
We picked up the Spicy Salmon and Tuna Sashimi again ($11.50) and it was as plentiful as I remembered with rather large chunks of tuna, salmon and cucumbers.
They have lunch specials so we picked the California Roll + Gyoza special ($7) which came with a bowl of miso soup. The California roll was just standard (and the roll seemed to come apart) but the pork gyoza was quite good. It had a thin, crispy shell with a juicy pork filling.
Finally, we ended up with the Unagi Nigiri ($4 for 2 pieces). These were pretty good as the eel had a nice buttery texture.
