Van-Ya Japanese Restaurant

Van-Ya is one of those non-descript Japanese restaurants that you could pass by without even realizing it. Actually, I’m pretty sure that I’ve passed by this restaurant many times without batting an eye. Since it’s located on a side street off of Kingsway, that’s not too surprising.

The inside of this restaurant is quite tiny.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by my order of Small Sashimi ($6.50) for three tuna slices and 2 sockeye salmon slices. They were fresh and had the proper temperature/consistency that I was looking for and just melted in my mouth.

I ordered the Karaage Teisyoku ($8.75 meal set) which includes rice, salad, miso soup, and crunchy garlic beans. The chicken karaage were 5 pieces of juicy boneless thigh meat that had a crisp exterior… very good.

They don’t have air conditioning so it got really hot inside the restaurant. I might come back to have some more of that juicy karaage once the summer temperature goes down a bit.
