Eggs ‘n Things – Saratoga (Waikiki 2015)
Eggs ‘n Things has a very popular location on Kalakaua Avenue right across from Waikiki Beach. But if you don’t mind a little walk, you can hit up their flagship location on Saratoga Road. They’ve got a little gift shop on the main floor where you can pick up various Eggs ‘n Things tchotchkes.
On the left is the Plantation Ice Tea and on the right is the Passionfruit Juice (also known as Lilikoi in Hawaii).
Hawaii is great if you enjoy fresh tropical fruit. We picked up a Seasonal Fresh Fruit Cup ($6.45) which included an assortment of fruit.
There was, of course, pineapple in addition to melon, orange, kiwi, pear, grapes, banana, strawberry and blueberries. Since they only use fresh fruit, the selection might vary from time to time.
Since we weren’t too hungry, and because we wanted to have their pancakes, we decided to share the Fresh Island Ahi & Eggs which was listed as “Market Price”. I always worry when I see the menu say “Market Price” but it turned out to be only $14.95, which was about in line with their other menu items.
You can pick how the ahi is prepared (either sautéed or cajun style) – we picked cajun. They pair it up with 2 fresh eggs and your choice of steamed rice or home fried potatoes or 3 buttermilk pancakes. We decided to upgrade to the Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Whipped Cream as we really enjoyed it during our 2013 visit.
While we had our eggs poached, if you want to make the most of the eggs here, you should pick the steamed rice as it helps to sop up the golden yolks.
But I’m not complaining about getting the chocolate chip pancakes. I generally don’t enjoy pancakes very much, but these are a total winner. They don’t skimp on either the chocolate chips or the whipped cream and the pancakes are light and fluffy. They’ve also got 3 types of syrups to top your pancakes off with… regular, guava, and coconut… try the guava!
It’s really worth the wait, but if you’re short on time, try their off-peak hours. Make sure to come hungry!
