Heavenly (Waikiki 2015) – Island Lifestyle
They say that the island lifestyle changes you… and why shouldn’t it? Heavenly is a restaurant located in Waikiki about a block and a half from the major strip (Kalakaua Avenue) in the Shoreline Hotel.
Here, they focus on organic and locally sourced ingredients.
The interior decor is very laid back and reinforces the island lifestyle motif.
One of the great things about Hawaii is the abundance of passionfruit (also known locally as lilikoi). We ordered the Passionfruit Tea Soda and Peach Tea Soda ($6 each).
The Local Farm Eggs Benedict ($13.50) with local Shinsato Farm pork belly came with lilikoi butter and homemade hollandaise sauce on a wheat muffin as well as a salad with Okinawan purple sweet potatoes.
How gorgeous is that runny egg yolk? And that organic pork belly was super tender and flavourful.
Loco moco is pretty much a fast food staple in Hawaii so I was surprised at how upscale this version was. Heavenly’s Organic Veggie & Beans Loco Moco with Kahuku Beef ($15) was really good and topped with a beautifully fried egg. While it wasn’t overly saturated with gravy, I didn’t miss it.
Overall, the food at Heavenly was, well, heavenly.
