Curry Cafe (Waikiki 2015) – Loco Moco and Dole Whip
One of the things that I love about Hawaii is that you can find great eats just about anywhere. Take, for example, the Royal Hawaiian Center on Kalakaua Avenue. While there are restaurants aplenty throughout the area, you only have to head to their food court located on the 2nd floor to get some tasty eats.
Curry Cafe offers a mix of Hawaiian and Japanese curry dishes to choose from. I picked the Loco Moco Hayashi Rice ($9.29 + $3 for the combo) as well as a Dole Whip ($2.79). For the combo, you make your own salad from the salad bar and I threw together some lettuce with corn niblets, pickled carrots, radish, and pasta salad.
I’ve had loco moco before in Hawaii and I’ve got to say that this was really good. The meaty hamburger patty was topped by a perfectly fried egg with a runny yolk and the rich gravy goes so well with the rice. I still can’t believe I found this in a food court. The Dole Whip was so refreshing… especially with the humidity we were having.
Don’t shy away from the food court when you’re in Waikiki… you can find some really good spots like Curry Cafe. I so wish that the food courts in Vancouver had stuff like this!
