Big Star Sandwich Company – Reopens!

One of my favourite sandwich shops has recently reopened in New Westminster, moving from their previous location on 12th Street to Columbia Street.

The sandwiches at Big Star Sandwich Company really speaks to me… the mix of fresh ingredients and the funky sides and drinks makes them standout from cookie-cutter places like Subway (don’t get me wrong, I love a big tuna sandwich from Subway every now and again).

There’s not a huge amount of room in this new location… you could probably fit a max of 20 people in here. Above the counter is the big menu displayed with all of the sandwich options you can pick from.

On this visit, I opted for #18 – the turkey, bacon, and habanero monterey jack cheese with lettuce, tomato, sriracha mayo and cranberry sauce… cause you can’t really have turkey without cranberry sauce. I turned it into a meal with a bag of kettle-cooked chips and an O-So Butterscotch Root Beer. I was happily surprised to find that the butterscotch root beer was pretty good.

As for the sandwich itself, it lived up to my previous experiences with Big Star. Here’s a tip… you can add hickory sticks to any of their sandwiches.

On a prior visit, I tried their #16 -turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, ranch, mayo, cucumber, lettuce and tomato, with added hickory sticks. Their sandwiches can be a bit messy to eat but well worth the stains on your shirt.

Make sure you check out some of our previous visits where I review some of their other sandwiches.
