Deer Garden Signatures – Malay Laksa Soup

Deer Garden Signatures is a fairly popular chain restaurant. Never having been to the location at Venezia Place before, I had a difficult time actually finding it because it’s located on the second floor of this complex.

Arriving for lunch, I decided to order the Malay Laksa Soup combo ($9.50) with egg noodles, sliced beef brisket, and homemade cuttlefish balls as well as a cold lemon tea (+$1).

There was an ample amount of tender sliced beef brisket. The cuttlefish balls were firm in texture… maybe 3 or 4 in the bowl. One of them seemed to be a bit stringy, which was odd.

I decided to come back the following month to try some of their other dishes: Malay Laksa with cuttlefish and fish tofu ($9.50 + $1 for the cold lemon tea) with a side of their special Desert Wings ($2.25 for 3 wings) and the #310 Pork Chop with Onions and Bacon Sauce ($10.75) with a Strawberry Slush ($2).

The strawberry slush and chicken wings were the first to arrive. Honestly, not sure why they call them “desert” wings but they were pleasantly crunchy.

The pork chops were thin and had a slight char on the exterior. The sauce was good but there could have been more bacon flavour and onions.

The laksa was, as usual, a hearty portion.

The food came out pretty quick and I was pleased with the large steaming bowl of noodles. The broth was okay but I felt like it wasn’t too creamy. If you’re feeling chilly due to the weather, this is a great way to warm yourself up.
