Minamoto Kitchoan (Hawaii 2016) – Wagashi
Minamoto Kitchoan is located in Ala Moana Center and is a purveyor of “wagashi”, a traditional Japanese confection made from natural, unrefined sugars.
Minamoto has a few locations world-wide, including New York, San Francisco, London, Singapore and Tokyo. During our visit in April, I noticed that they had these interesting sweets made especially for the Japanese Cherry Blossom season. The sakuranbo is a lightly sweetened white peach jelly with a whole Japanese cherry in the middle. They also have oukashigure which looked interesting with a pink inner filling which I assumed was a mix of bean paste and cherry blossom.
The sakuranbo was 8 pieces for $29 (6 pieces for $22) and the oukashigure was 8 pieces for $26.10 (6 pieces for $19.70).
Definitely going to try some of these the next time I see this place.
