Ladurée – Famous Pâtisserie Opens in Vancouver
When Ladurée opened a shop on Robson Street in Downtown Vancouver earlier this year, the buzz was deafening. Sure, Vancouver already had its share of quality macaron establishments, but this was Ladurée! The same Ladurée that has such a rich and storied past in Paris!
Well, it seems like everyone in Vancouver was in line to get into Ladurée’s shop once they opened. Pictures of the lineups were filling up my Instagram feed for the first few weeks.
I’m not much of a lineup person but my sweetie brought home some of their signature macarons in early April. Their box reminded me a bit of the blue boxes you get from Tiffany & Co.
Inside are 18 delectable macaron gems including coffee, pistachio, rose, orange blossom, licorice, vanilla, chocolate, maple syrup, Marie-Antoinette tea, raspberry, blackcurrant violet, cherry blossom, praline, lemon, salted caramel, citron, and strawberry candy “Guimauvre”.
Seriously, don’t ask me which one was my favourite. They were all pretty great… even the licorice (and I don’t even like licorice).
Apparently, the macarons aren’t made fresh in Vancouver (which I find kind of odd considering the amount of work having to ship these delicate morsels half way across the world).
Definitely a must try and the macarons were quite good. Were they the best we’ve had in Vancouver? Probably not, but it’s right up there and I loved the variety of flavours.
