Bao Place – Pork Delux
What would you call a place that only sold bao? Bao Place? Kind of makes sense.
Bao Place is a tiny shop that opened up last year located near Miss Saigon, across the street from Metropolis at Metrotown. They seem mainly geared towards take-out orders but they do have a few seats inside.
They have a very limited menu set. I ordered the Pork Delux ($3.25), Curry Dynamite ($2.50), and BBQ Delight ($2.50).
The Curry Dynamite was probably my least favourite of the bunch because the filling was on the small side. I did, however, enjoy the flavours of the crumbled beef and Malaysian curry with onions… they just needed more curry filling.
The BBQ Delight had pork and handmade Chinese bbq sauce. It was pretty good… the filling was flavourful and the pork was tender. It doesn’t have the overly sweet red bbq sauce that you find in some bbq pork buns.
The best of the trio was the Pork Delux. The filling was juicy with pork, scallions, jicama, ham, and egg. This was, by far, the most interesting bao filling and the meat was super juicy.
It’s not exactly a place that I would go to regularly for lunch but the baos do make a good snack… especially the Pork Delux.
