Fortune City Seafood – Okay Dim Sum
Fortune City Seafood is a large Chinese restaurant located on the top floor of the complex at 1st and Renfrew. As with most Chinese restaurants located in mini mall complexes, I detest the parking (or maybe it’s just the other drivers that I detest).
In any event, we came by for dim sum in late June. Check out our dinner post from this restaurant a few years ago.
We started out with the Steamed Rice with Spareribs and Pumpkin served in a clay pot. I really would have liked this better if it had some lap cheong (Chinese sausage) in it. As it was, it felt kind of plain.
The Siu Mai was okay… the pork and shrimp filling were plump.
I know it seems to be a bit of a trend on this post, but the Steamed Beef Balls were okay, nothing overly wrong with it but also nothing great either.
OMG, another “just okay” item… The Pan Fried Radish Cake with XO sauce was topped with a bit too many sprouts and didn’t have much XO flavour.
The best item that we tried on this visit was the Chinese Donut Rice Rolls. The crunchy Chinese donut was encased in a velvety smooth rice wrapper and served with the traditional hoisin and peanut sauces.
By and large, most dim sum dishes here aren’t going to wow you. Still, nothing overly wrong with the food. Just your typical, run-of-the-mill, dim sum joint.
