Papa Greek (Burnaby)
When we saw that Papa Greek had finally opened up a location in the Market Crossing area of Burnaby, we were quite pleased as there was a definite lack of Greek cuisine in the area.
Papa Greek seems to be set up very similar to a food court outlet except that they have an ample amount of seating available.
On our first visit, we tried their Greek Chicken Gyro Platter ($11) and Roast Lamb ($13). Given that it wasn’t very busy during our visit, they were quite slow in getting the food out. Perhaps it was because they were still new and working the kinks out?
The food was actually pretty good (nice tender lamb). I know with most fast food outlets, you can’t expect much in terms of service… but I just felt like something was missing here.
In any event, we came back for a revisit in mid August and had the Beef Gyro Platter ($11 plus $1.25 for pita bread). The pita bread was still warm with a crisp exterior and puffy soft interior. While the beef slices appeared thick, they were quite tender and the golden-hued rice wasn’t the least bit dry.
The food is probably a bit more expensive than what you’d find at a Greek food court stall in the mall and there’s really very little service here, but the food is quite adequate for the area. Don’t expect your food to come out quickly though.
