Banh Mi Bar – Vietnamese Subs
We’ve got sushi bars and coffee bars and actual drinking bars… well, it was about time that we had a banh mi bar around here!
Banh Mi Bar is a relatively new shop that opened up in New Westminster near the provincial law court. There’s not a lot of seating and the menu is limited to banh mi but that lets them focus on one thing… making a mean banh mi.
Oh my first visit, I ordered the House Special ($5) which included four types of meats. The baguette has the signature crispy/crunchy exterior that you expect from a banh mi while the pickled veggies add a bit of tart crunch on the inside. They do have some bar stool seating at the front window where you can add hoisin and/or sriracha to your sandwich, but I think most customers order to-go.
On my next visit, I tried their Chicken and Pork Patty ($4.75 each). I thought the chicken wasn’t exactly the best I’ve had. Perhaps if the chicken was still hot, it would have been better.
I preferred the pork patty over the chicken… add a bit of hot sauce and it was heavenly.
Overall, some solid banh mi here (pick the house special or pork patty) and the owners were friendly and helpful.
