Edo Mirakuchaya Sora Machi Tei (Tokyo 2016): Sashimi and Rice Bowl
Tokyo Skytree is really a sight to behold… this building is the tallest structure in Japan at 634 metres and they have an observation deck that can see all the way to Mt. Fuji on a clear day. After taking in the magnificent views from the top of Skytree, we went looking for some lunch in one of the buildings attached to the Skytree complex.
On the building closest to the Oshiage station, we found a number of restaurants on the 7th floor including Edo Mirakuchaya Sora Machi Tei. From the name and the decor, it seemed like this restaurant was trying to cater to tourists looking to enjoy an Edo-period tea house environment.
While they had a small stage for entertainment, it went unused during our visit. There was, however, a large tour group that arrived shortly after we did so this place is probably popular with the tour groups.
We wound up ordering some appetizers like this Chicken Yakitori (¥367 for 2 skewers). They were pretty good (perhaps not as good as what we had in Yakitori Alley but good nonetheless).
One of the Special Sashimi dishes had about 7 different types of sashimi in it (¥1944). Honestly can’t be entirely sure what type of seafood they had in here but it seemed quite fresh.
I ordered the Salmon and Roe / Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl (¥2106) which allows you to enjoy both donburies at the same time. The large bowl is divided in two with the Salmon and Ikura don on one side while the Oyako don is on the other side.
If you like variety, then this might be a good dish for you… can’t beat eggs and rice.
