Musubi Cafe Iyasume (Hawaii 2017): Avocado Bacon Egg Spam Musubi
When we visited Hawaii in 2016, they were still renovating the Shirokiya Japan Village Walk in the Ala Moana Center. So on this visit, I was looking forward to checking it out (especially after our recent trip to Japan in November).
This place is amazing! Just imagine a sprawling food court that sells just about every Japanese delicacy. We were a bit overwhelmed with all of the choices available here. Since we were still fairly full from our prior meals at Cinnamon’s and Piggy Smalls, we decided on just grabbing a light snack.
And what could be more representative of a Japanese snack than musubi? Musubi Cafe Iyasume has a few locations in Waikiki and specializes in these portable rice treats. While there’s more to musubi that just Spam, Spam is quite popular in Hawaii so this is a must try if you’ve never had it before.
The Avocado, Bacon, Egg, and Spam ($2.88) musubi is everything that you could hope for. Fried Spam topped with tamago, bacon, and creamy avocado. The rice to topping ratio is pretty good (I prefer less rice but that’s just me).
We made sure to return to Shirokiya Japan Village Walk later in the week to try out some more food here.
