Five Star Shrimp (Hawaii 2017): Garlic Shrimp

The last time we were in Oahu, we were thrilled to find garlic shrimp smack dab in the heart of Waikiki at Pacific Garlic Shrimp, right outside the Pacific Beach Hotel, because it meant that we didn’t have to travel all the way to the North Shore for some tasty garlic shrimp. As it turned out in our visit this year, the Pacific Beach Hotel was undergoing renovations which meant no garlic shrimp in front of their location.

Still, we were craving a plate of tasty garlic shrimp so we searched high and low until we found Five Star Shrimp in the Pau Hana Market on Beach Walk. This little area has a number of different food carts set up with a small shared picnic area in the centre of the encampment.

While you can get rice with your garlic shrimp, we decided for just the shrimp-only plate for $11.99. The shrimp were large and plump and we didn’t have to wait in a huge lineup like we did when we visited Giovanni’s on the North Shore. It may not have been quite as garlicky as I would have preferred, but it was still pretty good.

We actually wound up coming back a couple of days later to pick up some more shrimp. It’s also right next to Henry’s Place which has some really tasty, fresh ice cream and sorbet.
