Shaka Poke (Hawaii 2017): Basic Poke
One of the things that we were really looking forward to during our recent trip to Hawaii was all of the poke that we were going to eat. Sure, we had some favourite poke places to return to… but we also wanted to find some new poke places around Waikiki. That’s how we ended up at Shaka Poke
This hidden eatery is located on the lower level of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza (you can find it by entering off Royal Hawaiian Ave, down the stairs and to the right). There’s nothing glamorous about this poke spot and they have a limited menu that also includes plate lunches, desserts, and musubi.
The Spam Musubi ($2.50) had quite a bit of rice… too much for my liking. The spam was okay but you can’t really go wrong with spam.
We ordered the Ahi Shoyu Poke ($9.50). The poke was made fresh and had some interesting seaweed but I felt the flavours were muted. This was all served on a big pile of rice that we didn’t actually finish.
Overall, I suppose it was okay (and the ahi did seem quite fresh) but it wasn’t my favourite poke spot in Waikiki.
