TR Fire Grill (Hawaii 2017): Shrimp and “Grits” and Shrimp Tacos
On our last day in Waikiki, we found a new spot for lunch on the corner of Kuhio Ave and Walina Street (across the street from the International Marketplace) called TR Fire Grill.
The great thing about this place was that they were playing a mix of 80’s and 90’s music while we were dining so it was a bit difficult to pull ourselves away. We started our meal with a couple of refreshing Plantation Ice Teas.
Although we weren’t looking for anything really heavy, we wound up ordering the Shrimp and “Grits” ($18) with local smoked pork sausage. I suppose grits is in quotes because it’s actually served with jalapeño cheddar polenta instead. While polenta and grits are both made from coarsely ground corn, I found the polenta to be thicker and with a firmer texture to it. Sam’s bayou sauce was really quite good and had a nice spicy kick to it.
We also ordered the Shrimp Tacos ($12) with an avocado mash, black bean pineapple coleslaw and seasoned fries. Despite being full from the polenta, I just couldn’t stop eating these crispy fries.
TR Fire Grill’s is a pretty good place to hang out and enjoy some casual eats.
